"Friends of Dentons Green Park"

The friends of Dentons Green Park have been together almost a year now, with the aim to upgrade and improve the area.

At the back end of last year a consultation exercise was carried out to find what the people around the park would like to see there, this has now been completed and a design drawn up for the area.

The findings where that the age group for the equipment be age 5-12, as for the equipment itself, the park is only big enough for five items. Swings came out on top followed by slides and a climbing frame, with seesaw being the fifth.

As there were a lot of other requests for items we have picked out the most popular, a football pitch seemed to fair very highly so it is are intension to form a Five-A Side football area with a youth shelter and bin close by near the Youth Club end.

The group would like to thank all who took part in this exercise and all of you who came to our two Fun Days, the first at the Youth Club raised £413.89 and the second at the Assembly Hall raised £340. We would also like to thank Barnby Dun with Kirk Sandall Parish Council who has donated £200 towards the Five-a-Side goal posts.

The other improvements to be carried out in June/July are the removal of the concert posts, new fencing around the perimeter and planting of shrubs and trees.

If you would like any more info or would like to help, please contact the Cliff Hampson on 885656.

Work is still ongoing and now we have a new fence and the old posts have been removed we are hoping to start with the play equipment in the new year.

The five-a-side football pitch will be marked out by the Youth Club and we hope to retain the basketball hoop as we know it is well used.
